August – Dunkeswell

BSBP3595 SThe day dawned wet and windy for August’s last Wednesday ride but the satellite picture indicated the weather was improving from the West, so the four of us who turned up for the ride decided to head West to Dunkeswell aerodrome rather than East to Compton Abbas as planned. This turned out to be a good decision as the sun was shining when we arrived at the airfield with lots of airplanes, helicopters and parachutists to keep us entertained over lunch.

Route Map Thanks to Andy who led the return journey via Castle Neroche, an Iron Age earthworks 850ft above sea level.

A short stroll from the car park gave splendid views of the Blackdown Hills and Exmoor.
