Last Meeting

Thanks to everyone for attending the meeting last Tuesday. It was good to see you all again.

I really did struggle to think of a good title/ name for our new Rally next year.

The Thruxton Treffen is still the best I can come up with.

This post is a test, as i’ve finally found an hour in my hectic life, to  correct the grammar in my recent reports and to try to add a post to the site

See you at the Quicksilver on the 3rd Tuesday?

If you are reading the site for the first time or perhaps haven’t attended a previous meeting, please feel free to come along!

Thanks

Dave T.

Oct 2011

First Tuesday meet at the Quick Silver pub tonight from 7:30

The Rally season has pretty much drawn to a close now.  Dave has a write up of the Concorde Rally from last month, which is under the “Run Away” menu. Thanks Dave.

See everyone down t’pub.

Tony.

Sept 2011

Hi Folks,

We met on Tuesday 6th at the Quick Silver pub in Yeovil for another club get together.

The next ride out is to the Old Granary, Wareham on 20th. Meet either at the top of town car park in Dorchester at 6:30 or meet you there.  We went this tme last year and both the food and drink are to be recommended; the coffee’s not bad either!

There are a number of us off to the Concorde Rally on 23rd to 25th. If you’re interested in going you need to contact the Bristol Branch http://www.alandeb.plus.com/index.htm for tickets.   If you already have a ticket and would like to ride there as part of a small group, please contact us.

Tony

August 2011

On 16th August, we met up at the Mitre pub in Shaftesbury, arriving between 7:30-8pm.

Ted, JC and Les

The rally season is well underway and after the success of the Germany trip at the beginning of July, Dave, JC and Ted attended the Bexley Legend Rally towards the end of July.  Dave and JC have also just returned from the Swedish Britannia Rally.  Dave has written a few words on  After TOMC Sommertreffen 2011, so have a read under Run Away. Hopefully we’ll manage to get to the Concorde Rally in September too.

Tony.

July 2011

Well folks, despite the lack of recent updates to the site, it’s been a busy few months.  I’m told that last month’s ride out to Hambridge went well, I was away up t’north and couldn’t make it.

Dave, JC, Ted, Les and I came back from 5 days away riding through France, Belgium, Holland to the TMOC summer party in Germany on the 4th July. I’ve already accounted for four of the five day 2011 Sommertreffen trip and have also uploaded some photo’s into a gallary, so have a look under Run Away.

Over the weekend of 16th/17th July Dave and his wife Sam, Ted and JC went to the Birmingham and Wolverhampton TOMCC branch Thunderbird Rally, in Newport, Shropshire.

This months ride out is on Tuesday 19th July to Hunters Lodge, Wincanton.  The aim is to meet up in Dorchester for 1830hrs, then onto Yeovil for 1900hrs, and finally arriving at Wincanton for circa 1940hrs.

The next club night is Tuesday 2nd August at the Quick Silver pub, Yeovil.

Tony.

June Rideout

This month’s ride out, on 21st June, is to The Lamb and Lion, Hambridge. The two meeting places are:

The top of the town car park in Dorchester, near The Keep, at 6:30 pm.
Leaving the Quick Silver pub, Yeovil at 7:00 pm with the aim of arriving in Hambridge at 7:45pm.

Ladies and Gentlemen, tonight, Tuesday 5th April was our local branch AGM and it went off without a hitch. There was nothing untoward to mention. The club accounts were signed off and the club officials were nominated and seconded. The only change is that I’ll scribe for Nacelle for the next three months, taking over from Andy Garrett; JC will take on the next three after that.

Just a reminder that the main club AGM is on Sunday 17th April at the Heart of England Social Club in Meriden (CV7 7LB). The meeting will start at 11 prompt, you need to be there at 10am for registration. Lunch will be at 1pm and is expected to close around 4pm. See March Nacelle, page 4, for more details.

The first of our 3rd Tuesday rideouts take place on Tuesday 19th April with a run down to the Pulpit Inn in Portland Bay. We’ll meet at the top of town car park in Dorchester at 18:45 with the aim of getting there at 19:30. We’ve been several years and it’s a good ride and fun night out. The pub serves great food if you don’t have time for dinner before you leave.

More plans are unfolding for the summer trip over to Sommertreffen WOTOC rally in Germany at the beginning of July. There are 5 of us confirmed so far. Those that have already booked the ferries are paying about £40 for the Dover to Calias return crossing, leaving on Thursday morning and returning Monday. So if you fancy a long weekend, get in contact with us fast. Please see the 2011 Rideouts section of the web site for more information.

Several members attended Nigel Parkinson’s funeral on Monday 28th. It was a good send off and the church was packed and I estimate about 400 present. He shall be missed and was a good friend to many.

Tony.

Nigel Parkinson

It was with great sadness that we learned that one of our founder members Nigel Parkinson, 53, died in a motorcycle accident on Friday 11th March 2011.

Nigel started Hill Climbing part way through the race season in 2009 with his racing partner Graham Clifford. During the first season they learned the ropes and started to win races. In their second season they were both extremely pleased to win their class. Last weekend they were testing their outfit for the new season, following high speed runs they were undertaking slow manoeuvres at the Westonzoyland Airfield, near Bridgwater, when the accident took place at approximately 15 mph. We are informed that Nigel was killed instantly however his passenger was more fortunate and survived.

Nigel was a fisherman and owned his own boat. He enjoyed recounting tales about the start of his career in Hull, where he learned much about the trade and the need to avoid the local women.

Nigel was a Triumph man through and through and had been a member of the TOMCC since 1983. He enjoyed riding Triumphs both old and new having recently rebuilt his T140 which he had owned for many years. He sold his Hinckley Thunderbird which he rode to Gran Canaria last year and bought a 1050 ST. Rumour has it that he hoped to keep up with Ted on their frequent trips to the WSB and BSB races.

Nigel was a very well respected member of the club, which was due to his positive attitude to life, his common sense approach, sense of humour and willingness to help his friends.

Our deepest sympathies are offered to Jackie, his family, Graham and his very wide circle of friends.

He will be sadly missed.

Nigel’s funeral service will be at All Saints Church in Wyke Regis at 1:30 on Monday 28th March

February 2011

Well, the new year is off to a good start, on Tuesday 1st Febraury the branch planned out the 3rd Tuesday ride outs for the rest of this year, so check out Club Life for further details.

Nacelle

You may have noticed changes to the club magazine, Nacelle, I think it’s newer format certainly looks great. Dave Porter, from Manchester branch is responsible for the new lease of life and I’m happy to say he’ll be visiting us on our next formal branch everning, which is Tuesday 1st March, to tell us more about his plans and listen to any feedback. So please come along and give him a welcome as he’s coming along way.

The World Association of Triumph Owners Clubs (WATOC)

I’d like to bring to your attention our International rideout to the Sommertreffin WATOC in Germany. The rally is over the 1st and 3rd of July and if you’d like a fun weekend away abroad let us know. Come along to a branch evening or contact JC for more information.

The WATOC is a great way of travelling away on your bike, knowing that you’re going to meet the friendly faces of like minded people. Each year WATOC sets out a challenge for riders who like to travel, you earn points for each Rally attended and our congratulations go to our own JC for winning the 2010 WATOC challenge.

Branch AGM

We have our branch AGM on 5th April at the Quicksilver Pub in Yeovil. Please do come along, it’s a good opportunity to meet your fellow club mates and have your say. The branch committee positions are up for annual election and if you’d like to take a more active role now’s a good time to have a go. Unfortunately two positions that need filling are our Branch Scribe and Vice Chairman. Both positons were admirably fullfilled by Andy Garrett, who entertained us with his monthly updates in Nacelle, but has now decided to move onto other things. Our very warm thanks to Andy.
